Dan Hall in DWM 444

In the latest DWM, out today, Dan Hall gives some interesting insights into the future of the Classic Who DVD Range, including this:

Now, as far as Airlock is concerned my money`s on Planet of Giants. Why?

A friend of mine is working on Something Special for this release and, given what that is, I reckon they’ll put the G4 ep on that release.

I was proved right about Shada, so let’s hope I`m right about this too!

[And before you ask, PoG is the only upcoming release I have any inside information on]

As for the rest of the interview, glad to hear Varos is being re-released, which means chances are Ark In Space will be too. This was news to me, even if it wasn’t to you, as the Keyboard Gangstas over at Gallifrey Base – and Outpost Gallifrey before that – mean I only get my news from DWM, Combom or Blogtor. Not so keen on the news that they’re planning on re-releasing other stories as these two are the only ones that I think need revisiting. I mean, I`ve already bought the buggers once…

As for Underwater Menace 2, Hall says there`s a “potential” release that will provide a home for that. Wonder what that can be? An animated version perhaps?

Episodes 3 and 4 of Planet of the Giants were spliced together prior to broadcast and the Something Special your friend is talking about could be an attempt to reconstruct the story into a four parter. That’s what they’re saying on GB anyway… If Airlock is included as an extra that would be very good news indeed.

Well, as someone who has seen all of Ian Levine`s Shada, I must be honest and say that I know exactly what the Something Special is and you may be right about it, you may not… but you might be. I mean I can’t confirm that there is going to be a reconstruction of the four part version utilising the voices of the surviving cast, CGI and re-used footage & backgrounds from the surving episodes. Or that a certain voice over artist who can also do a very good Tom Baker is impersonating Hartnell. I can`t confirm any of that….
