BLOOPER! – Hide

anybody else spot this flipped shot during the episode?
I bloody hate flipped shots…

dr who hide blooper

Why did they think they had to flip that one shot? All they had to do was flip the shot before it instead and then the whole sequence makes visual sense…

BLOOPER! – The Curse of Peladon

Only spotted one blooper during the Fan Edit of this story, which I completed a couple of days ago…

you see that line above Pertwee`s head? That`s the studio lights catching the nylon thread attached to the door…

BLOOPERS! – The Sun Makers

currently Fan Editing this story, my last Graham Williams one, and spotted the following bloopers…

First, here`s our old friend the console cable – on this occassion they haven`t even bothered to cover it up with white Gaffa Tape…

sun makers blooper 1.1
sun makers blooper 1.2

Next, here`s a cameo appearance by that other old stalwart, the boom mic shadow…
sun makers blooper 2

In part two, although you can`t see it terribly clearly in this screengrab, when the Doctor leaves Hade with the 1000 Talmars, look out for the boom mic shadow that crosses Hade`s desk…

sun makers blooper 8

At the start of part three, look out for the mysterious vanishing cable that`s only in this one shot…

sun makers blooper 3

Little Henry Woolf`s bald cap is pretty convincing throughout the show, until you see it from this angle…
sun makers blooper 4

Back to the Tardis for these last two – first, there`s that console cable again…
sun makers blooper 5

And finally, when they tilt the camera at the end, you can see the top of the set!

BLOOPER! – Horror of Fang Rock

Having recently completed the Fan Edit of this story, the only blooper I spotted over the four episodes was this one, in Episode Two –

when the Doctor leaves the crew room, watch out for a lovely boom mic shadow on Tom Baker`s shoulder…

BLOOPERS! – The Rescue

Just finished Fan Editing this story, and guess what I found…!

Okay, Episode One and first up it`s our old friend the console cable…
rescue blooper 1

Ian gets a lovely boom mic shadow on his head…
rescue blooper 2

…and that camera`s a bit too close to Barbara!
rescue blooper 3

Is that a wig? Yes. Can you see the join? Yes
rescue blooper 4

Looks like Bennett got his Koquillion clobber on in a hurry – he`s forgot the feet…
rescue blooper 5

Vicki does a Jo and flashes her knickers at Barbara…
rescue blooper 6

On to Episode Two now, and here`s a double for you – look for the creased backcloth and the bloke helping “Sandy” with his tail…
rescue blooper 7

Another camera shadow on this Dido bloke`s arse…
rescue blooper 8

Somebody left a window open…
rescue blooper 9

This is a good `un – look at the far end of the Tardis set – that`s a camera, that is…
rescue blooper 10

I know Type Forties are de-commissioned and obsolete but I had no idea they were help together with staples…
rescue blooper 11

… not only that, the walls don`t meet! Mind the gap, Vicki!

BLOOPERS! – The Armageddon Factor

Having recently completed the Fan Edit of this story, I discovered all sorts of lovely bloopers that I`d completely missed when I watched the story the first time round when it came out on DVD.

First, you can here see where the top of the Tardis set stops…

armageddon factor blooper 1

And again here! What was Michael Hayes thinking of?
armageddon factor blooper 2

Wobbly sets are actually quite rare in Classic Who, but this one is a cracker! Watch closely as the Doctor comes in and closes the doors behind him – the entire wall moves! armageddon factor blooper 3.2

armageddon factor blooper 3.1

Keep an eye on the top of the screen in this shot and you can see a studio light as the camera pans past…
armageddon factor blooper 4

Here’s one you will certainly have missed – I did and it just goes to show how you can miss what’s right in front of you! When the Doctor gets shrunk and runs across to Drax you can see that Tom Baker is wearing a clip-on microphone!
armageddon factor blooper 5

This is the one that most people know about – the Mute trips up on a bit of carpet, gawd knows why it’s there – probably put there to deaden the sound of the Mutes’ clumping great Doc Marten boots on the studio floor…
armageddon factor blooper 6

No idea what this is that you can see through the gap in the set, probably a studio monitor…
armageddon factor blooper 7

At last! A boom mic shadow!
armageddon factor blooper 8

Since when did the Doctor cover the walls of the Tardis` corridors in black bin bags?
armageddon factor blooper 9

Here`s our old friend, the white gaffa-taped tardis console cable! armageddon factor blooper 10

And finally, when the Doctor moves towards the Key, sat on that glass-topped table from earlier, you can see where the edge of the Tardis set stops!

BLOOPERS! – Shada

Only three bloopers to report from this abandoned story and let’s start with the question of what is that light doing there…?

shada blooper 1

Next, here’s the one you may have missed – I certainly did and so did the info text!

When Clare exits the Professor`s room, en route to her scene with Wilkin, take a look at what’s beyond the door…

shada blooper 2
Yes, it’s the Krarg carrier ship, not the entrance to old Chrono`s room!

And finally, our old friend the boom mic shadow! Hooray!

BLOOPERS! – The Sensorites

I’ve just finished Fan Editing this story and spotted the following five bloopers…

First, there’s a boom mic shadow in Maitland’s ship…

sensorites blooper 1

Next, it looks like this particular Sesnorite could do with some more hair to help hide the fact that he’s really a human in a mask!

sensorites blooper 2

Now here’s a cracker – when the Sensorites are pursuing Ian and Barbara, they don’t need to bother going through the doors , they can just swing open that loose panel in the wall…!

sensorites blooper 3

And finally, here’s a couple of lovely Boom Mics in shot…

BLOOPERS! – The Ambassadors of Death

It`s  been a while since our last Blooperfest, so let`s welcome back one of my favourite parts of the site with a look at what went wrong on screen in this, Jon`s third story and the least engaging of Season Seven…

First, you can see a member of the crew reflected in the Doctor`s telly…

Next, Boom Mic Shadow #1… there are quite a few more of these that didn`t screengrab very well, but trust me – they`re there!

I don`t know why there`s a ruddy great screen at the back of the set, they never use it so maybe it`s just there to give the studio lights something to be reflected in…

The shadow you can see here is the film camera, helpfully lit so you can see it as the lorry drives past…

Boom Shadow #2…

Boom Shadow #3…

This is the front of the camera that`s about to take the next close up of Lennox…

Boom Shadow #4…

It looks like they were so pushed for time in the studio that they didn`t bother to finish the set properly…

Boom Shadow #5 – and it`s a cracker!

Boom Shadow #6 – almost as good…

Here, you can just see the retreating pedestal of the camera that took the previous Nostril Shot up Jon`s mighty nose…

And finally – although not technically a Blooper, I just had to include this rare lapse by the Info Text Quality Control Dept…

BLOOPERS! – Day of the Daleks

Following on from the delightful sight of Katy Manning flashing her knickers in our previous post, here are some more things we weren`t meant to see from Day of the Daleks!

First, that has to be the most unconvincing backcloth ever!

There are quite a few other boom shadows in this story, but this is the only one that really screengrabs well enough for you to be able to tell that`s what it is – in this scene watch Benton`s beret. The shadow moves across…

…and back again!

There`s that bloody backcloth again!

When The Camp Controller reports to the Daleks, the screen they view him on swings alarmingly. You can see it in this shot, minus the CSO insert…

Not sure what these white tape marks on the floor are for, or who…

When Shura leaves, you can see all this gubbins lying on Sir Reginald`s patio, which isn`t there on the film inserts of the guerillas approaching the house. Looking at it, you can`t tell what it`s for, only that we probably shouldn`t be seeing it! But all will be revealed later!

Reflective surfaces on a set can be tricky, especially if you don`t want to see the cameraman…

Okay, I know Ogrons aren`t the brightest of henchmen but why does this one walk past a perfectly good open french door just so he enter via the other one that`s further away?

Whatever the reason, it does allow us to see that all that gubbins we spotted earlier was for the pyrotechnic that went off when the door exploded!

You can see something moving reflected in the top of the set here. Given that all the Daleks remain static it must be a camera…

Another set, another reflective surface, another camera…

Here, the metal band over the Doctor`s torso picks up the reflected light from that dirty big yellow CSO screen above him, meaning the insert ends up being put in here too – oops!

Just after the flashback sequence – which is much better in the Fan Edit, even if I do say so myself! – they don`t even bother putting the insert into the screen in this shot…

Here you can see that Daleks run on castors and not psycho-kinetic power at all…

Spot the… light stick?

and finally… Make Up!
